ITBM roles (Analyst, Planner, Worker)

Can someone shed some light on the breakdown of what each of the ITBM roles (Analyst, Planner, Worker) is used for exactly? I'm not able to find much out there. We're looking to migrate from HP-PPM which has a completely different licensing model. We would need to provide the number for each of the roles, which vary drastically in price. If anyone has gone through this, I would appreciate your insight.

We recently received this from a ServiceNow contact. My understanding is that these changes are relatively new. I don't believe this to be unique to us so thought it was ok to share here. If not, let me know and I'll remove it.

So, you have to take everything you see about license and pricing on community with a grain of salt.   This many grains.

You must use your sales rep for the definitive information on license pricing.   So many customers have received so many customized deals over so many years, you're virtually guaranteed to hear something that won't apply to your deal.

For my part, I know that different types of licenses have different costs (Service Management vs CreateNow for example), but I've never heard of a license type that had differentiated pricing within that type.   Again, sales rep is the best person to speak to, as most of them are specifically trained on helping you model out ROI when replacing competitor's software.

Thanks, Rob. I'm not looking so much for pricing as I am for what function each of them is really being used for in a real-world situation. The entire SN crew is away this week, so it's a bit difficult to get a hold of them.

(On a side note, we met a few years ago at K '15 at a wonderful session you conducted.)

So ITBM encompasses all the SDLC, demand and PPM stuff.   I don't know anyone who knows that better than kellykaufmann.   Maybe she'll grace the thread with her presence.

Thanks for remembering me!   K15 must have been my "Innovation is not Alchemy" presentation, right?   I have to ask... after 2 years was anything from that presentation helpful?

There is a Roles and Use Rights document that lays out the roles in detail but I'm still checking for the link. Kelly may have it. The advice to work with your rep is also good because you may have some entitlements based on older kinds of licensing which including some equivalence to the current Planner license. At a high level the newer Worker, Planner, Analyst licensing is a user-based license model that covers all the capabilities of the ITBM products (PPM, FM, the new App Portfolio Management as well as SDLC/Agile Development and Test). Worker is for simple tasks like reporting time, Planner would be project managers and financial budget managers and Analysts are used for advanced ITFM and APM functions.
