What is the guideline / best practices to follow in order to choose the right CI class for the network equipments . we have around 180+ types network equipments .  getting mixed direction to choose the CI class . few suggest to choose base class ( network gear ) . few suggest to go for the extended class like specific to different network segments RAN , PON , MPLS , etc

Can you share the pros and cons of choosing the base class Vs extended class ?

Hi,

The CMDB is a hierarchical structure. Each class extends into child classes to be more specific and provide more details. The higher up in the structure the more generic and the less attributes you have access to. You should always strive to classify a CI as specific as possible,
