Hi all,
I have a question regarding VA that uses the NLU model. How is the model trained? Is the data leaving the ServiceNow Instance? Is the data at any point leaving the ServiceNow instance? Now using now assist by te way just regular NLU. Is the model being trained without customer data? like there is an option to opt-in or out for data sharing to train NLU?
Regs,

Hi,
For regular NLU (not Now Assist / GenAI), the NLU model is trained inside your ServiceNow instance using the utterances and intents you define, and the training artifacts are stored locally in tables such as ml_solution and ml_model_artifact.
- The data used to train your NLU model does not leave the instance; it stays within your tenant and is not shared externally for model‑training purposes.
- There is no separate “opt‑in/opt‑out” for NLU data sharing because NLU training is instance‑local and not part of the Now Assist customer‑data‑sharing program.
The opt‑in/opt‑out controls you may see in documentation apply specifically to Now Assist / GenAI, where you can disable Now Assist or opt out of data sharing in the Now Assist Admin Console → Settings → Data sharing if you do not want your data used to improve ServiceNow’s AI models.

The screenshot above is for Predictive Intelligence, there models are generated externally and you publish data to a SN instance. You can try this in the corresponding training, that is part of the PI micro certification. "Classic Virtual agent" works different, it works as outlined in the first link.
KB1200085 states "Source of Truth:
The instance is the persistent layer and source of truth for all solution training on all AI capabilities within the ServiceNow Platform."
