Curtis Fox is a fourth-year student currently pursuing a combined honours degree in computer science and statistics at the University of British Columbia (UBC). Born and raised in the Vancouver area, Curtis has expanded his academic interests by taking numerous math courses alongside his core studies in computer science and statistics. Notable courses that he has particularly enjoyed include CPSC 421 – Theory of Computing and CPSC 302 – Numerical Computation for Algebraic Problems. At present, he is enrolled in STAT 460 – Statistical Inference, which has proven to be an engaging subject. Throughout his time at UBC, Curtis has served as a teaching assistant for multiple courses in both statistics and computer science, reflecting his passion for teaching and helping others learn. Curtis aspires to attend graduate school after completing his undergraduate studies, with the goal of pursuing both a master’s and a doctorate degree. His research interests lie in the fields of numerical linear algebra, algorithms, and statistical inference. While he aims to eventually become a professor and work in research and academia, Curtis is also open to exploring opportunities in the industry. Curtis believes that scientific progress is crucial and views continuous learning as a vital aspect of personal and professional development. Originally considering medical school and a career as a doctor, Curtis shifted his focus after his first year of university, ultimately finding greater interest in computational and mathematical fields. Looking ahead, Curtis intends to take English 301 to enhance his professional writing skills, a valuable asset for his academic aspirations, particularly for publishing papers and collaborating with other professionals in his field.
