Hi @Joshua Comeau,
Have a look at the documentation - https://docs.servicenow.com/bundle/washingtondc-servicenow-platform/page/product/configuration-manag...
In the doc, it mentions 4 PA jobs:
- CMDB Workspace Aggregates Daily Collection
- CMDB Workspace Aggregates Monthly Collection
- [Demo] CMDB Workspace Aggregates Daily Collection
- [Demo] CMDB Workspace Aggregates Monthly Collection
But I did notice that there are few more in the PDI:
Cheers

Hi @Joshua Comeau,
To populate the CMDB (Configuration Management Database) Workspace in ServiceNow, you typically need to ensure that certain sources, breakdowns, and indicators are correctly configured and that relevant jobs are scheduled to run. Here’s a breakdown of what you typically need to consider:
Sources:
- Discovery Sources: These are the mechanisms through which ServiceNow discovers configuration items (CIs) in your IT infrastructure.
- Examples: Discovery schedules, patterns, credentials for various types of devices (e.g., Windows servers, network devices).
- Integration Sources: These can include integrations with other tools or data sources that provide CI information.
- Examples: SCCM (System Center Configuration Manager), VMware vCenter, AWS CloudWatch, etc.
Breakdowns:
Breakdowns in ServiceNow CMDB help categorize and structure the CIs and their relationships. Common breakdowns include:
- Hardware: Servers, workstations, network devices.
- Software: Applications, databases, middleware.
- Service: Business services provided by IT.
- Location: Physical or logical locations.
- User: End users or departments.
Indicators:
Indicators are used to measure the health or status of CIs or services. They are often configured to trigger alerts or actions based on certain thresholds.
- Health Score: Overall health of a CI or service based on multiple indicators.
- Availability: Percentage uptime of a CI.
- Performance: Metrics like response time, throughput, etc.
- Security: Compliance with security policies.
Jobs to Activate and Schedule:
In ServiceNow, jobs refer to scheduled processes or workflows that populate the CMDB and ensure its accuracy and completeness.
- Discovery Jobs: Scheduled to run discovery processes across your infrastructure to find new or updated CIs.
- Identification and Reconciliation Jobs: These jobs help in identifying duplicate CIs and reconciling them.
- Integration Jobs: For integrations with external systems to pull in CI data.
- Health Monitoring Jobs: Jobs that evaluate indicators and update CI health scores.
- Data Quality Jobs: Jobs that ensure data integrity and consistency within the CMDB.
PA (Process Automation) Jobs:
Process Automation in ServiceNow involves orchestrating tasks and workflows related to CI management.
- Automation of CI updates: For example, automatically updating CIs when related incidents are resolved.
- Change Management Automation: Automating approvals and updates to CIs during change processes.
- Alert Remediation: Automatically triggering actions based on health indicator thresholds.
onfiguration Considerations:
Ensure that:
- Credentials for Discovery are correctly configured and up-to-date.
- Discovery Schedules are aligned with business needs (e.g., daily, weekly).
- Integration Points are stable and configured to sync data regularly.
- CI Classes and Relationships are defined according to your organizational needs.
By setting up and scheduling these jobs effectively, you can ensure that your CMDB Workspace in ServiceNow remains accurate and reflects the current state of your IT infrastructure, facilitating effective IT Service Management and decision-making.
