@Sathwik1 Service Mapping can discover and map configuration items (CIs) following their traffic-based connections. This method is referred to as traffic-based mapping and it complements the pattern-based mapping.

What difference we can notice, if we uncheck/check and run.. can. you explain more in detail? I'm unable to catch your point.

@Sathwik1 In ServiceNow Service Mapping, the "Traffic-based discovery" checkbox enables the feature that leverages network traffic analysis to map and discover application services. When enabled, Service Mapping uses real-time network traffic patterns and connections between devices to automatically identify and create service maps.

When you uncheck the "Traffic-based discovery" checkbox option in Service Mapping, ServiceNow will not rely on network traffic analysis to discover services and their dependencies. Instead, it will rely solely on other discovery methods, primarily pattern-based discovery.

User cases of Traffic-based discovery:

  • Dynamic Services: In environments where services are constantly changing or expanding, traffic-based discovery ensures that the service map is always up to date without requiring manual interventions.
  • Complex Architectures: Ideal for discovering services with complex and layered architectures where direct discovery methods might miss dependencies or relationships.

Benefits of Traffic-based discovery:

  • Real-time Insights: Provides more accurate and up-to-date insights into the actual functioning and flow of services in the environment.
  • Reduced Manual Work: Automates the discovery process, reducing the manual effort needed to create and maintain service maps.

Hope this answers your questions.
