Phase one was foundational data. Phase two was the crawl stage. Phase three was the walk phase. Phase four was the Run phase and finally we get to the last stage, the Fly stage.
In the Fly stage, the organization reaches full business alignment and value realization within the CSDM framework. At this level of maturity, the CMDB and service model extend beyond operational and business services to connect directly with strategic business architecture and information management.
The CSDM dashboard shows information about gaps in information objects.
This stage introduces two additional out-of-the-box (OOB) tables that strengthen alignment between IT and business strategy:
- Business Capability: Represents the core functions or abilities that the business must perform to achieve its objectives. Business Capabilities provide a strategic lens through which to view applications and services — enabling portfolio rationalization, investment planning, and enterprise architecture alignment.
- Information Object: Represents the key data entities or information assets managed and utilized across applications and services. These objects define the data layer of the service ecosystem, supporting visibility into information flows, governance, and compliance requirements.
Additionally, Request Catalog integration becomes increasingly valuable at this stage. By linking Service Offerings directly to the Service Catalog, organizations enable business-consumable access to the services modeled in CSDM.
The Fly stage elevates CSDM from an operational data model to a strategic business architecture, enabling insight-driven planning, cost optimization, and digital transformation at scale.
