Hello,
We've probably handled this differently than some. My organization is currently manually gathering Business Applications and Application Services. We do not have ITOM and it's not really on our roadmap as of now. We've been asked to build out our CMDB to encompass SAP. We actually started with our Application Services as it was easier to identify our SIDs and align those to Environment records with designated ownership.
However, as we move up the model, we are struggling to figure out how to manage our SAP landscape as Business Applications. Mostly because a SID for us is not 1 for 1 with a Business Application. We also operate regional ERP's that are a mix of On Prem and Cloud as we continue our transformation journey. And example of how we are thinking to approach this is below:
Business App [Platform Host - Parent] = SAP (ECC or S4HANA) NA
Business App [Platform App - Child] = SAP Order Management NA, SAP Finance NA, SAP HR NA, ETC.
Application Services = SAP ECC <SID> Prod NA, SAP ECC <SID> Test NA, ETC.
Note: We use the SID in the Application Service Name as most people in the organization know the environments by these ID's. Additionally, they are called out individually in Aliases.
Does anyone have experience with building out strategic business applications for SAP? How did you handle this?

Hi Mike,
My straight forward suggestion with the assumption that a business application like SAP Order management runs on the business application SAP ECC:
BA=SAP Order management related to Application service SAP Order management_PROD.
BA=SAP ECC related to Application service SAP ECC_PROD.
AS SAP ECC_PROD hold associations like depends on etc. towards the Infra CI's that provide the SAP ECC_PROD platform
AS SAP Order management_PROD hold a depends on association with AS SAP ECC_PROD
Probably more Business applications are running on SAP ECC_PROD. Create also for them Application services and associate them also with the AS SAP ECC_PROD.
In this way from BA and AS point of view the picture is clear. Changing infrastructure 'below' the AS SAP ECC_PROD can be done as you are on a journey regarding this without consequences for the AS itself.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Ed

Hello Ed - Thank you for your reply! I've tried to model what you've mentioned with the figure below. Does this correctly articulate what you're saying? (I've added an S4 example as well)
This makes sense for what is demanded by the CSDM model. However, It's challenging in practice for us, especially with getting our SAP Basis team to support the data. I've highlighted the sub-environments in RED based on your example. Our issue is that there is really only one production environment for our SAP ECC for NA which has one SID and is a tangible, interactable environment. When using Incident & Change processes, we would really want all tickets pointed to the Single Production Instance. Our understanding was that Business Services & Offerings would allow us to identify how that environment is being used/serviced. This also becomes much more challenging to manage when done at scope with our production path given 6 environments make up most of our apps. By experience, is this how you are managing your SAP environment in ServiceNow?
Additionally, highlighted in PURPLE is our "assumed" business applications under our ERP Platform Host. Does this match how others have built out their SAP Business Applications?
Thank you,
Mike

Hi Mike,
My ServiceNow is not SAP savvy, and am tasked to depict map our S/4 HANA Production Support Landscape (Dev, QA, Staging, Prod) and Project Landscape (Dev, QA, Staging) and SAP BW (same as S/4 HANA). Could you please share your approach including VMs?
It would be helpful if you can shed light on how you approached Solution Manager and entry points (such as SAPGui, SAP Fiori).
Appreciate the help!
