Is it possible to only translate Activities (Comments and work notes) for specific tables via Dynamic Translation - Field Translation?

I know how to enable/disable field translation for string field in tables, however, I was not able to find a way to turn off or restrict the translation icon to a specific table for comments and work notes.

@Alex Coope when looking at the idea portal I found information that it is possible to turn off Dynamic Translation for Activity stream by creating a system property "glide.dynamic.translation.enable.activity_stream" and set the value to false.

@Lilla Murger,

Just so that I fully understand the ask, what's your desired outcome?

In theory, if you apply the attribute to say the [incident] table's Short Description / Description fields, then it wouldn't show on say the [problem] table, or [change_request] or a HR Case table. Do you have a more specific scenario in mind?

Many thanks,
Kind regards

Hi @Alex Coope

Yes, your description is applicable to string fields on the tables. However, the entries in the Activities section are not on the table.

My question is about controlling when to enable the translation of Comments and Work notes which are displayed in the Activities section. The translation of the Comments and Work notes was enabled by default after the Dynamic Translation plugin has been installed and the connection to a translator service has been established.

So for example if I want to keep the Activities translatable for Incident, but not for Problem, would that be possible?

@Lilla Murger,

Ah, so ootb no, and the main reason being would be - would it lead to a consistent / good user-experience for someone who works across multiple processes where they are able to translate some content in a different language in one process but not another?

If this is a super important need for you, I'd suggest raising an IDEA on the Idea portal so the Dynamic Translation product team can review it. I will raise it with them though in our next meeting as I can see various pros vs cons depending on use-cases,

Many thanks,
Kind regards

@Alex Coope

Thank you for your insight! I was suspecting a similar answer, good to have a confirmation.

Speaking about consistency - is it possible to turn off the translation everywhere for Comments and Work notes? I also couldn't find information about this.

(Just a little background: there is a concern from our stakeholders that users will feel encouraged to use their language more and more, and this will result in an increase of non-English descriptions and short descriptions which is inconvenient for audit purposes. Dynamic Translation is used for Knowledge Management and we want to roll out Agent Chat translation as well, so uninstalling Dynamic Translation plugin is not an option in case the business insist on not wanting translated Activities.)
