Employee Center - Navigating Knowledge Articles

Hi. 

We've linked a bunch of knowledge bases to our employee center, meaning that the articles will appear in search results. But when the articles are not linked to any topic in the taxonomy, it seems like I can't browse the knowledge categories in the search results, only browse the taxonomy topics. Did anyone face the same issue and come up with a genius solution?
