Asking this question because many times I see people create custom tables under CMDB but no one ever touched AMDB (have never seen people creating custom tables extending alm_asset/alm_hardware), but I felt to do so,
Hence asking this question to know the scemario in case you have done so 🙂

Hello @Suggy ,
I wanted to share a use case for why we created a custom table extending the AMDB. While working on a project for a gas energy company, we needed to track specific fields such as energy usage, which were not available in the alm_hardware table. To meet our reporting requirements, we extended the table. Although ServiceNow provides many out-of-the-box fields that cover a wide range of use cases, there are rare scenarios, such as integrations, where additional fields are necessary. In such cases, extending the AMDB becomes essential.
I’m curious to know about your use case. Could you please share?
Thanks

Our customer is a mnufacturing customer. They have various types of machines manufactured inhouse. Each type of device and different attributes to be tracked. Hence planning to create a new asset class.
There are manu manufacturing customers who are using ServiceNow. I am still curious to know how they are tracking the manufacturing assets.

Before creating any new class, I'll suggest to first install the following 'Enterprise model and asset classes' plugin and check out the newly added model and asset classes. It is explained in the following URL:
Also as manufacturing customers will have different types of equipment, you can also recommend them to check if they want to use the enterprise asset management product explained below:
https://www.servicenow.com/products/enterprise-asset-management.html
Although this will have additional license costs, it should be valuable for them if they have many such equipments to track.
