Does HAM Bulk Import support IT assets such as laptops, desktop computers, and printers?

We are looking for a quick and efficient way to bulk import IT assets into the Hardware Asset table (alm_hardware). Can we use the out-of-the-box Bulk Import functionality in the Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) Workspace to accomplish this?

The out-of-the-box HAM Bulk Import functionality requires selecting a stockroom. However, we need to import assets assigned to multiple stockrooms in a single operation.

Hi @vzhang188 ,

the out-of-the-box Import and receive assets in bulk functionality in Hardware Asset Workspace is stockroom-specific.

 process

  1. Navigate to Hardware Asset Workspace → Inventory → All stockrooms.

  2. Select the required stockroom.

  3. Select Import receiving log.

  4. Download and populate the Excel template.

  5. Import the template, review the validation results, and resolve any errors before receiving the assets.

Since the process requires selecting a stockroom before importing,  OOTB procedure does not  support for importing assets assigned to multiple stockrooms in a single operation.

For your requirement, you can either perform separate imports for each stockroom or evaluate an Import Set and Transform Map that resolves the appropriate stockroom for each asset. Validate the latter in a sub-production instance before using it in production.

Also, note that the workspace functionality is an asset receiving process with validation, rather than simply a bulk insert into alm_hardware.

In the Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) Workspace, can the Bulk Import feature be used to insert and update general IT assets (such as laptops and printers) directly in the alm_hardware table, or is EAM Bulk Import restricted to enterprise asset tables (alm_enterprise)?

Hi @vzhang188 ,

importing enterprise models and assets, including fields such as manufacturer, model, serial number, state, and stockroom.

However, the  fields alone do not confirm whether the process directly inserts or updates general IT hardware records in
alm_hardware.

To confirm support for laptops, desktops, and printers, check the target table configured in the EAM Bulk Import asset Transform Map and review its field mappings.

If the target is
alm_asset or another table, verify whether the process creates or updates the corresponding hardware asset records.
