Hardware Model & Intune

I am currently involved in a Hardware Asset Management (HAM) implementation and migration project. We are setting up Hardware Asset Management for a customer in a Greenfield instance . We will be loading asset data manually for compute and workplace devices that are not connected to the customer's network.

For the non-discoverable assets that need to be manually created, we have decided to create hardware models based on the model, manufacturer, and model number. (For most assets even though the model name and manufacturer might be the same, most assets have configuration differences indicated by the model number). If a hardware model already exists matching these three criteria, the existing model will be attached to the newly created Configuration Item (CI) and if it doesn't exist new model will be created and attached to CI. This approach should work well for devices created by manual load.

However, the majority of the devices will be populated by Intune. I need help understanding the following:

  1. When Intune creates CIs, will it also create hardware models?
  2. What inputs will Intune use when creating hardware models? Will it be the manufacturer, model name, and model number, or just the model name and manufacturer? Additionally, is this configurable?
  3. Is it possible to disable model creation from Intune if the second point is not true?

Looking forward to your expert advice. Thanks in advance.
