Manual CI Creation Query

Hi All,

I have a request come in to me for a manual CI creation for an application but my gut is that this isnt the best approach and it should instead be fed into service now via Leanix instead but I'm not 100% sure.

what would the recommended approach be?

The ask is:

We need the following CI's setup in SNOW please.
• Commvault Cloud M365 MS Teams
• Commvault Cloud M365 Sharepoint
• Commvault Cloud M365 Microsoft OneDrive
• Commvault Cloud M365 Microsoft Exchange Server

Hi @GChat

It’s best to avoid manually creating CIs for SaaS workloads like M365 (Teams, SharePoint, etc.).

Instead, rely on automated discovery to maintain accuracy and minimize operational effort.

For POC or testing in sub-production environments, manual creation is acceptable.

However, in production, if the Service Graph Connector can discover the applications, there’s no need to create it manually.

Benefits of automated CI creation:

  • Accuracy: Minimizes the risk of human error in configuration.
  • Timeliness: Keeps data up to date as M365 tenants evolve.
  • Relationships: Automatically establishes dependencies between M365 services and other CIs.

Thanks Tanushree,

Yeah I'm pushing for discovery but not sure at the moment how to get it discovered - my gut was to avoid manual creation so appreciate the confirmation

If you need them in Snow, why are you on the ServiceNow Community?

Please know that Snow and ServiceNow are two completely different products!!

And we can't answer this, because we don't know your instance. We don't know how you are importing/creating applications. If they normally come in from a different system, that's the way you should do it now. If not, do it manually.

We don't know if your applications are sourced in some place and distributed to other systems/platforms from there or not. If you aren't sure how your company should do this, how do you expect us to?

Please mark any helpful or correct solutions as such. That helps others find their solutions.

Hi Mark,

seems you didn't read the full comment as initial question is in regard to service now and then snow is used as an appreiviation.

I'm aware snow if a diff system too, and also this is a service now forum so you can presume its a service now question
