Need Assistance with the Advance shipment Notification use case

I am new to Hardware Asset Management , can anyone guide me with any one appropriate use case of Advanced Shipment Notification ? Much appreciated for your answer.

IMPORTANT! Use of this feature requires installation of the Hardware Asset Management (HAM) application.

Advanced Shipment Notification (ASN) enables you to automate and create asset records while your assets are in transit from the vendor.

When you place an order, you provide your vendor with a standard template that they fill out and return. You then upload the template to your system to create your asset records in advance of receiving them.

You can streamline the process of importing vendor-provided asset information into HAM (prior to receiving your shipment) using a Microsoft Excel template. 

ServiceNow provides a standard template for import of the vendor-shipped asset records. This template is available as part of the Advanced Shipment Notifications feature. 
Step 1 : Download template
Step 2 : Provide template to vendor

Step 3 : Vendor returns template

Once the template is returned, you can upload it to your ServiceNow instance. Your asset records are created in ServiceNow prior to physical receipt.

I'm new to HAM too...
and I can understand what does ASN can do.

If the Purchase order is not created by servicenow，we can use ASN to create assets。

Otherwise, we don't have to use ASN to create assets（in this case ,servicenow will create the asset record ） ?

There is no further explanation about "What scenarios should ASN be used in"  in the document.

I'm not very sure if my understanding is correct。。。

Hello @newhand ,

I have mentioned in the thread to onboard the old assets of a customer to ServiceNow instance this is the best use case apart from advanced order from a vendor.
