What is the purpose of the Asset Code field in the alm_hardware table?

Asset Code/tag:

Alphanumeric information assigned by your organization to help track the asset.

In ServiceNow, the Asset Code field in the alm_hardware table (and generally in the alm_asset table, which alm_hardware extends) serves the purpose of providing a unique identifier for an asset.

the asset code is the unique identity for the hardware assets which can be auto-generated at the time of creation or manually updation to avoid the duplication by the respective CMDB/HAM team. Even we can add the prefix also to track the assets within the organization.

hi if you mean Asset tag it is a unique identifier how to differentiate the assets...

it can include location, type, etc.

For example:
PTLTP001, PTLTP002 > Portugal - Laptop 1, 2
SWSC001 > Sweden screen 1...
CZMBL04 > Czechia, Mobile 4

So it is used for tracking of the assets, each company has its own convention for this, no universal response.
