Hello,
Does anyone know if it is possible to assign a task, from within an HRSD case, to a group of people to review and answer, instead of just a single person?
We have several use cases where it would make more sense to assign a task to a group, like a finance or compensation group (who are not fulfillers in the system) and allow the first person in that group who has time to work on that task, to take ownership of it and work on it.

You can assign automatically to a group instead of person, by setting on the HR Task Template, within a Workflow, or using Assignment Rules with the correct condition(s). The HR Task Template's "Assignment type" should be Fulfiller with "Skills/Assignment Group" selected. This is shown on the template in the New UI view.

Hello again,
I think that in both the responses below, the assumption is that the group that we want to assign the task includes fulfillers. In our case they are not. We want the members of these groups to receive a notification, and to to the employee service center to review and provide the necessary information to complete the task, but not have to open up the case in ServiceNow to view and update th task.

No, HR Tasks can only be assigned to fulfiller groups.
