Dynamic titling on drill down reports

I have a report with a couple of drill down layers.  The initial report has bars, the first level drill down a doughnut and the third level is a list.

I can give the first two individual names in the Style tab.  I can't do the same for the list because the Style tab is greyed.  Is there a way around that?

My real question is this.  In the top level report, if I click on a bar that is labeled Help Desk, I want the doughnut that opens to include Help Desk in the title I have set for that report.  I know that the data are being captured in order to set up the filtering.  How can I add the higher level choice descriptor to the drill down title or do I need to propose a SN enhancement?

Thank you for any information you can provide.

Hey Johnfeist,

The last drilldown will always default to a list report type. So if you specify two report drilldowns, the last one that is not directly specified will revert to a list. All report types EXCEPT list, histogram, calendar and some others(see provided link) support drilldowns. The fact that list don't support drilldowns is the reason that the Style tab is greyed out. If you add an additional drilldown and choose a type that supports this functionality, like 'pie' or 'semi donut', the 'Style' tab will become available. There is no remedy for this at the moment. Also, see this link for all the report types that don't support drilldowns:

Hope this was helpful.

Thank you US_3_R,

I understand the why of not being able to drill down into a list type report, even though there are many cases where that might be useful.  While not being able to drill down limits certain functionalities, those should not be available in the Style tab while others remain relevant.

Hey Johnfeist,

after further exploration, I need to make some clarifications. If I understand your question correctly, you're wondering why some functionality is supported but not all if the list type doesn't support drilldowns. You can actually created a drilldown that is a list type. However, you can't then create a drilldown FROM that list type report. If you happen to create a report that's a list type and click the 'drilldown' icon, you won't be able to click the '+' sign to create another one. So, those report types are limited in that way. As far as the style tab, none of the properties in this tab are applicable to a list type report so it isn't available. The only thing you can alter is the columns that can be viewed and specify a filter via the 'Group by' dropdown. But you can accomplish that from the standard list view on a record. However, as I mentioned, this doesn't keep you from saving the drilldown itself. If I didn't get at your question, let me know.

Hi US_3_R,

The question of what you can or can't do on the list type report is a secondary part of what I want to know.  My bigger question is this.

Assuming I have a three level report structure, when I click on the On Hold bar (let's assume the bars are showing incident state) in the top level report, I want the title on the drill down (let's assume it's a doughnut) to show something like "Assignment Groups Within Incidents - On Hold"  where the On Hold part is dynamically added.

In the drill downs, the entry in the title option under Style is shown above the drill down with the top level title remaining above.

Hope that helps.
