Reporting on Average tickets in open state during a period of time.

I want to look at some historical data. Specifically I would like to know the average number of (INC, RITM, etc) in a state of Open/InProgress/OnHold (active) during a period of time, as an example- the month of December, but the ticket could have been opened or re-opened on any date. 

For context, the conversation is as follows: 

"In December, we averaged X number of active Incidents at any given point (day/week) during the month, but in January we only average X number of active Incidents at any given time."

 

Ps, I'm looking for a potential solution outside of Performance Analytics.

Performance Analytics is free for Incident by the way. 

Basically unless you take snapshots all the time by way of reports( which you would have to go locate and open by one) and metrics it will be hard for you to get this data in one spot like PA as your essentially recreating it.

Hi Jennifer - When it comes to Historical Data, we need to take a snap shot fo data, which is possible only with Performance Analytics. I am not sure, you can achieve this with classic reporting.
