SaaS Software Products calculation

Dear Community,

Who can explain how ServiceNow SAM Pro calculates the Total number of products in the SaaS asset analytics dashboard?
Taking in consideration that SAM Pro relies on a Direct Integration Profile for a specific publisher, here in this example: Microsoft, therefore by analyzing the User subscriptions coming from Microsoft Direct integration, the number of software products (unique) should be the same number of products that the one displayed in the SaaS asset analytics. And this is not the case, got 21 products in the analytics and only 15 in the user subscriptions import.

What is wrong in this reasoning?

Hi @Lionel Falk,

I think it's because of the different filters/viewing angles. In one case, only the product is viewed (SaaS Analytics), and in the case of User Subscriptions, the software model is always displayed initially. Although the product is the same, there may be different versions/editions.

Can you please repeat this analysis on your own system and see if that answers your question.

Best, Dennis

  • All > Software Asset Workspace >  Software asset analytics > SaaS Overview > Publisher filter "Microsoft" -> Total numver of products: 9

  • KPI Details Drill down -> 9 Products

  • User Subscriptions grouped by Software Model -> 11 Results
(e.g., Teams Phone and M365 Ent. E3 exists in various software model combinations)

Dear Dennis,

Thank you for the reply, this is exactly what was done at my side. Your example confirms that the reasoning is correct, isn't it?

The first discrepancy identified at my side is in the Software Asset Analytics dashboard where the Group By Product (Show Records is ON) is required. The list shows only 5 software products, independently of the rows per group setting. Since there are 21 Microsoft software products displayed, the expectation is to get 21 products in this list too, and only these products are listed:

  • Product: Business Center (x) Show all
  • Product: Enterprise Mobility + Security (x) Show all
  • Product: Stream (x) Show all
  • Product: Teams Rooms (x) Show all
  • Product: Visio Online (x) Show all

The second discrepancy is in User subscription: still for Microsoft publisher, where it returns 23 products. In your example, you have the same number of products coming between the subscription and the analytics dashboard, which makes sense. Here is the Group by Product list at my side, 23 in place of 21 (from the analytics).

  • Product: App Connect (x) Show all
  • Product: Audio Conferencing (x) Show all
  • Product: Business Center (x) Show all
  • Product: Cross Tenant User Data Migration (x) Show all
  • Product: Defender for Endpoint (x) Show all
  • Product: Enterprise Mobility + Security (x) Show all
  • Product: Exchange Online (x) Show all
  • Product: Fabric (x) Show all
  • Product: Microsoft 365 (x) Show all
  • Product: Office 365 (x)Show all
  • Product: Power Automate (x) Show all
  • Product: Power BI (x) Show all
  • Product: Power Virtual Agents (x) Show all
  • Product: Project Online (x) Show all
  • Product: SharePoint Online (x) Show all
  • Product: Stream (x) Show all
  • Product: Teams (x) Show all
  • Product: Teams International Calling (x) Show all
  • Product: Teams Phone (x) Show all
  • Product: Teams Rooms (x) Show all

Any ideas why these numbers are misaligned?
