Record producer translation

Hi mates,

Once again I need your comments on this.

I am created 15 record producers and 4 of them need to be translated to French and Dutch.

They share some variables sets. (But I ducplicated them and add "_Translated" to be able to separate them)

Message are translated and work fine.

However, When I change my language to French or Dutch and change the label by giving the translation it works but it also work for the other items that have the same question.

How can I translate the record producer variables name/label without affecting the other ones?

Regs,

Hi,

Localization (technically this is not translation), is a global function; if you localize the string "XYZ" in a given language, than any label that has "XYZ" will show the localization in the selected language. You cannot selectively decide to localize labels in one place and not another except by making the labels different. There may be a way in client script to temporarily set the user's language to the system language, but I wouldn't recommend it.

Why would you want one form localized but not another?

Hi Ken,

Thanks for your answer. That was what I suspected.

But from customer's requirements, only 4 of the 15 record producers needs to be translated. so that is why.

Now, if I have to translate them all, it means I will need more time than we planned and it will also cost more. This is usually to easy to manage because signed contract.

the second option, maybe for all record producers that need to be translated: I can use a client script to set le label. The value of the label will be stored as message and that way it will be translated.

But, this approach is not a good solution to me because it requires efforts and also for future maintenance it will bring more work.

Finally, I do not want to change the label for example for the name, the label is "Your name" and the variable's name is "your name".

The localization is taken the label not not the variable name, why it is difficult to manage.

If you have an advice, please tell me.

Funny, you have the opposite problem than what we normally encounter...

If it were me, I'd see if you could add either a non-visible character, or extra spacing, or something... just to make the strings different so that they are localized only where you want them to be.

I will see if I can think of other ideas...

Oh cool I will try to add non-visible character to see the result. I will let you know tomorrow probably
