What is the difference of Category(category) and Category(kb_category) fields on Knowledge table

Hi there,

On Knowledge table I can see 2 category fields. I wanted to know what difference between these fields is and why we are only using only Category(kb_category) field. It seems like Category(category) is no longer used anywhere. Can you please share any articles from ServiceNow which explains this.

Thanks!!

Hi @Narayan K ,

Both are same!!

"category" is a legacy field, which is not used now.

The kb_category field is the field used in the knowledge form to set the multi-tier categorization of a knowledge article:
Define a knowledge article category

The legacy Knowledge v2 "category" field is no longer used:

All things Upgrade considered on Knowledge v2 to v3

Hi @Narayan K

If you are using any template to create a KA then the category filed gets populated where kb_category defines under which section of the Knowledge base the KA should be created.
