Anybody know what the purpose is of the table called cmdb_ci_appl_now_app?
There is also an extension of this table called cmdb_ci_appl_now_app_comp.
I can see these tables in both our Kingston and our London instances. But they have no records.

In Kingston these tables where introduced, along with several other new tables like for Azure or AWS. They are meant to manage ServiceNow Applications in ServiceNow, as you can do with other applications.
ServiceNow Application | cmdb_ci_appl_now_app |
ServiceNow Application Component | cmdb_ci_appl_now_app_comp |
ServiceNow Connector | cmdb_ci_appl_now_connector |
ServiceNow MID Server | cmdb_ci_appl_now_mid |

I have now found what I was looking for on this matter.
All is revealed in:
https://docs.servicenow.com/bundle/london-it-operations-management/page/product/event-management/concept/self-monitoring.html
The tables in question are populated by, and used by, the Self Health Monitoring for Event Management
