Project Template use

Our process for creating new PRJ projects in SN is to start from a Demand, then have a PRJ created from the DMND and fields carried over from the DMND and the PRJ and DMND reference eachother. I was asked to look into the Project Template functionality. We are currently using the 'Copy Partial Project' functionality if we have a project schedule we want to use as a template. But to do this, we have to create a dummy PRJ just to have the schedule to copy to real projects, and this is messy having dummy PRJ's out there.

Should we just create a template for each template project schedules we want, then use the 'copy partial project' functionality from that template, so we don't have these dummy PRJ's?

Is it technically feasible to apply a template to an existing PRJ just to have the project tasks copy into that project?

Thank you

Thank you Anna. When we create a Project from Demand, I don't see any options for applying a template that has tasks to that new project (that doesn't yet have tasks). Do you know if this is possible, and how?

Also, we don't have the 'To create project from a template click here" text in the header....how do you get that?

Thanks!

Hi Kelly. Once the project is created from the Demand application (by approving or clicking on Create Project), you will need to go into the newly created project. If there are no child tasks created, then you'll have the option of applying a template. This is what you will be seeing starting in Fuji for a blank project with no child tasks -

Thank you Anna. I'm working with our Admin to figure out why I don't see that message / get that link.

Also...it doesn't look like, within a template, you can create/edit project tasks in GANTT view, is that correct? There is only the list view available for creating/editing tasks in a template?

That is true. This is how I go about editing a template:

1) Create a Project from the template

2) Make any changes like add/delete tasks and relationships using Gantt or any other tool

3) Save the Project as a Template creating a new version of the template

Seems longer but I don't mind the extra project creation step as it allows me to test the template at the same time.
