When we moved to San Diego, I found a great article from Mark on how to change the close icon. We upgraded to Utah and it seems things have changed again.
This is what the icon looks like now for users to close the chat window. How do I get this to an X again??
I have users asking VA how to close the chat window now.

Even if you are using the out-of-the-box Virtual Agent Service Portal widget, you won't get the most recent changes introduced with for example Utah and Vancouver. Those changes will have effect when using Agent Chat configuration.
Definetly if you are using the out-of-the-box Service Portal widget (and not a cloned and edited version), switching from the legacy Service Portal Virtual Agent widget to Agent Chat configuration, should only be a task of a few minutes, oke maybe an hour if doing that for the first time, though that's it.
When having done that, and wanting to update the icons or color:

I much prefer to move using OOB for VA, I saw the changes for the look and feel and those changes do not impact our current VA, makes me think the person that created this cloned the widget. I am going to attempt to discuss with our main Admin to get the widget using the OOB widget.
