Theme Builder release notes
The ServiceNow® Theme Builder application enables you to customize the visual experience for your users so that you can update the look and feel to be more like your brand. Theme Builder was enhanced and updated in the Australia release.
Theme Builder highlights for the Australia release
- Customize fonts by category and adjust font sizes to scale typography across specific component categories like headers, buttons, and form fields, or by size groups for consistent styling.
- Access the new icon library to configure and override default icons using custom assets.

Theme Builder is available by default and upgrades are available in the ServiceNow Store. For details, see the "Activation information" section of these release notes.
New in the Australia release
- Override default icons for a fully branded experience
- View and manage your theme’s icon library in Theme Builder, including uploading custom assets to replace default icons. Icons support size variants, outline and fill styles, and dynamic color adjustments and integrate with embeddable components.
- Control typography at the component category level
- Assign fonts to individual component categories to create clearer visual distinction across your interface.
- Flexible Font size control
- Fine-tune font sizes across component categories for a polished, consistent look. Use font‑size controls to tailor default or custom fonts to your brand needs. Applies across Next Experience and embeddable components, ensuring a consistent brand look even on external sites.
UI changes
- Updated Editor page Global styles preview options
- The Global styles panel has been updated in the following ways:
- The UI styles preview tab has been renamed to Abstract UI.
- The Experience preview tab has been renamed to Experiences.
- A Categories tab is now available allowing you to view groups of components by font or font size. This tab appears only when the Typography panel is open.
- Global styles panel updated
- The Global styles panel has been updated in the following ways:
- Global styles panel was relocated to simplify theme editing and provide a more consistent interface.
- The Typography panel now features two dedicated tabs, Fonts and Sizes allowing you to manage typefaces and font scales independently. In addition, the panel supports a new structure for editing typography at a category level, bridging the previous gap between global and individual component styling.
- Create a theme wizard updated
- The existing create a theme wizard has been updated and streamlined in the following ways:
- Primary and secondary colors are now selected in a single step.
- The neutral color step has been removed. You can now choose a neutral color from the Global styles overview panel when needed.
- The additional colors step has been removed. Additional brand colors can also be selected from the Global styles overview panel.
- Custom font upload is now available directly from the font selector.
- The final step is still the theme summary, with all editing options accessible directly from this page.
Activation information
Theme Builder is included as a core plugin with the Next Experience application and is available by default. You can update to the latest version of Theme Builder from the ServiceNow Store.
