Feasibility and pros/cons of maintaining both Service portal and Employee Center

Are there any technical risks in  implementing Employee Center and keeping Service Portal operational. Can both portals co-exist and share pages/widgets?

Assuming they can coexist, can you provide a perspective on why or why not this shall be done?

Technically you can use both. You need to decide which is going to be default portal. The other portal to be accessed using the URL suffix.

Employee portal is better in terms of look and feel and it has better navigation. ServiceNow uses same widget between these portals, so you can use same portal as well. You can refer the below URL for more details on comparison

Most organization look for single portal, so it is not preferred to keep both portal. Since Employee Center has the advanced features, it is preferred to keep this portal

Hi @Claudia G Durki ,

Yes, both the portals can co-exist.

  • Widgets can be reused if they are compatible. EC uses the same widget framework as SP.
  • Each portal has its own navigation and theme. Mixing components may lead to inconsistent user experience unless carefully managed.
  • Maintaining two portals means double the effort for updates, testing, and support.
  • If users are exposed to both portals, they may be unsure where to go for specific tasks.
  • Fragmented user experience and increased complexity.

Also, why do you need 2 portals, if they are serving for same purpose?

Mark this as helpful and correct, if this helps you.

Thanks,

Yaswanth.
