On January 22nd, 2025, at Noon Eastern, we connected with the Technical Accelerator at Scale (TAS) team to explore their transformative tools. We discovered the concept of Impact—how to identify and harness it effectively—while gaining valuable insights into our Accelerator offerings and navigating the accelerator catalog. We delved into the Platform Analytics Accelerators, focusing on their automation processes and key objectives, and concluded with an interactive Q&A session. This session deepened our understanding and unlocked the full potential of these powerful resources.
Typed Questions that were not answered live:
Q1: After SN moves entirely to platform analytics, how long will reports run using the legacy reporting tool?
A1: They will need to be migrated using the migration tool and then they will run no issue, we don’t have a solid deadline for when they will not run anymore but right now we are thinking possibly Australia. Best to move before the deadline to avoid any last-minute issues.
Q2: Currently when we are using platform analytics, the dashboards are always in the platform analytics module and look like they are hosted in a workspace. Are there any plans to have those dashboards outside of the workspace similar to what they are now?
A2: Hi, not sure which release you are currently on but from Washington, we have removed the look and feel of the Workspace tabs and menus and made it look like the full page analytics as it was for Core UI.
Q3: I heard on a previous Q&A (from Marta I believe) that update sets are not the way to go for dashboard migration fixes (e.g. resizing widgets for legibility). What is the recommended approach if not US? fix in production? Thank you!
A3: Yes, the best way would be to first test in a sub-prod/dev and then perform the migration in production and fix anything needed in production afterward.
Q4: I posted this in Community, to get a bit more around this. The Data Visualizations interface only shows items on the global domain, it doesn't show anything in the lower domains. I have tested being on other domains but can't see any that aren't global. You need to go to the URL directly to open the record. Users won't be able to do this, and it's gonna be annoying for admins. Is there any plans to check this out?
A4: Hi, yes, this is an issue that our team will take in the next weeks and fix. As well as backport for previous releases based on the impact.
Q5: Can we have the ability to sort data visualizations like we can sort reports?
A5: Hi, I assume you would this capability in the library pages. We are working on improving this in Zurich (safe harbor).
Q6: In Platform Analytics, will there ever be an admin 'list' view similar to the old Dashboard Administrator list view and Reporting Admin list view, with the ability to use filter conditions to identify specific Dashboards or Reports? Or, perhaps it exists, but I haven't found it yet.
A6: If you need to know the tables:
par_dashboard
par_visualization
We are building in Zurich (safe harbor) new library pages for the Analytics Manager/Admin to have better editing and cleanup information (usage and sharing information with filtering) all in the same list.
Q7: Hi, and yes we are in Washington right now. Say something as simple as adding the dashboard as a favorite, we can't but rather need to bookmark it instead.
A7: If you have the Next Experience UI there is a “star” on top of the page that would allow you to add the Dashboard to the instance favorites.
Q8: Thank you, Marta. Any tweaks to this strategy when dealing with hundreds of dashboards (large, multi-workflow implementation)?
A8: Our goal is to not have a smoother migration, so not much to fix.
We are also planning to enable the dashboard owners to migrate their dashboards so they would be able to perform their updates directly.
Q9: It just seems like this is living in a workspace, and if there is any plans on having it similarly configured as normal dashboarding?
A9: The Platform Analytics is built using the experience/workspace technology, as of now it will be maintained as such. From Washington, we have changed the navigation pattern but the Platform Analytics pages are still delivered with the new experience technology.
Q10: Are sessions recorded to be used for future use for the customer's teams?
A10: The Academies are recorded and you can find them here: https://www.servicenow.com/community/platform-analytics-articles/2025-platform-analytics-academy-ses...
Q11: I dont see the ability to sort your visualization data like you could with Reports here
now/platform-analytics-workspace/data-visualization-library This issue was provided here
/now/nav/ui/classic/params/target/report_home.do%3Fjvar_selected_tab%3DmyReports
A11: Hi, you are correct, we are working on improving the functionality in the Zurich release (safe harbor).
Q12: After the migration, we found the OOB dashboard modules do not redirect. Is there a fix available?
A12: To clarify, this is after you’ve run the migration tool, and then clicked on “Activate” in the Migration Center, is that correct? The redirects don’t happen until you run that “Activate” command. If you have run the activation after the migration, then there is an issue that should be reported to Support.
Q13: Has a decision been made regarding the Workbench widget in Platform Analytics?
A13: We are looking right now at how to support it in a future release. We are in the discovery phase but do want to support it, more towards as a visualization layout/template.
Q14: Can you confirm migration can only be performed by admins or can power users migrate content?
A14: You are correct, the full migration from the Migration Center can only be triggered by the System Administrators.
Q15: Are there any built-in reports or db views that will allow us to display to our customers what WON'T migrate for them (based on the migration-center)? We have people who own many dashboards and would like to be able to provide a single list of what components of theirs have some type of issue.
A15: There is a column in all the tables we migrate called “Do not migrate in bulk”.
You could mark all the content you do not want to migrate with that fieldset to true and then create reports and a dashboard to share with all your users about the records you will not migrate
https://www.servicenow.com/docs/bundle/washingtondc-now-intelligence/page/use/par-for-workspace/task...
Q16: Who is ‘the squad’?
A16: Hi! The Squad is a team of on-demand experts who work with Impact Advanced or Total customers to help them with their own digital transformation. You can read more here: https://www.servicenow.com/community/servicenow-impact-articles/meet-your-impact-squad/ta-p/2892847
Q17: How many impact sessions can I run at 1 time?
A17: Dependent on which Impact package you have. For Guided, it’s one Technical Accelerator at a time. Advanced and Total can run 2 technical accelerators at a time.
Q18: If we start with a partial migration with a handful of dashboards, can we then do a full migration, to do the rest of them?
A18: Yes. You can do a “Try it” partial migration and then later run the full migration.
Q19: Marta, regarding my last question, after we run the Migration, there is the list of all of the Compatibility Mode items. I'd like to have a report that shows me all the Migration issues that occurred grouped by the person who created the component so that we can assign the work to them and have them fix them
A19: The migration logs are in https://www.servicenow.com/docs/bundle/washingtondc-now-intelligence/page/use/par-for-workspace/refe...
You might be able to create a report based on the records in compatibility mode and maybe join it with the user owner information.
Q20: It seems there are two issues using platform analytics list simple visualization:
1. All records were applied active is true by default
2. I was not able to dot-walk to list columns
Did I miss something?
A20: We are going to update the List component to a new component in Zurich (safe harbor), we want to remove the limitations above. In the Simple List at least for number 1, you should be able to update the conditions in the Fixed Filters section
Q21: If you have migrated and at the time of migration the report converted in compatibility mode, and later it becomes convertible is it possible to fix it?
A21: Yes, we automatically update them on the upgrade to the next family release in which is support.
Q22: We often do Dashboard Development in SubProd through an Update Set and then promote to Prod. Will update sets capture the creation of the dashboard, including Offloading the dashboard to the update set?
Q23: If more than 1 developer opens the same dashboard in Platform Analytics, the last saved changes overwrite all previous updates from other devs. Are there any plans to lock the dashboard if it is open to edit so that others cannot modify? it
A23: Yes, we have implemented the lock in Yokohama (Safe Harbor)
Q24: Can we flip new Xanadu instances to use legacy reporting?
A24: That is technically possible but not suggested, there are capabilities for the creation of CoreUI dashboards that would still be blocked and would need customization of ACLs.
Q25: How do we provide feedback and ux and non ux improvements to current Platform analytics?
A25: You can create a comment on Community or send me and Thomas a message
Q26: So header colors will be available for data visualizations and filters beginning with Zurich (safe harbor)? Or they will be migrated started then? or both?
A26: We plan to release the feature in Zurich as well as support it in the migration.
Q27: We want to ensure there are no major changes on PA after we migrate. There have been a lot of changes with workspaces that have caused a lot of issues for us
A27: There are no major changes planned for Platform Analytics/Dashboards that would require to do any changes. We are planning a lot of minor improvements with new capabilities, proactive analysis, more administrative capabilities,s, etc, but those will just give you new options and not going to create any other “migrations” of the experience.
Q28: Sorry to ask this question if this was already discussed. Who is responsible for migrating the traditional reports, dashboards, performance analytics indicators, breakdowns, etc to Platform analytics? Does ServiceNow migrate them automatically or does the customer have to review each report and decide whether it qualifies for Migration?
A28: At this point, it is up to the customer to determine when they should migrate. The Migration Center gives you that capability. We will eventually run an automated upgrade on a new release install, but the release has not been identified. We recommend that you start trying out the migration in the subprod ASAP, so you have time to address any issues or training/documentation needed by your users.
Q29: For things that don't work now, but will work in a future release - will there be a way to backport these if we have already migrated?
A29: The compatibility visualization would be automatically migrated to the new supported data visualizations when they are available.
Q30: When a user clicks on a hyperlink total in a pivot table visualization, the new tab opened says about:blank#blocked because the hyperlink is just javascript:void(0);. Is that intentional, or should I submit a case?
A31: This is a defect in my opinion, please submit a case.
Q31: Will there be a function similar to the PA Admin Console in PAE? As of right now, there is no cross-compatibility.
A31: We are in the process of building a new Analytics Center library page that will give usage information about dashboards and visualizations, afterwards we will focus on troubleshooting and performance/load time information. So over time, we plan to build the critical capabilities in the new Platform Analytics exp.
Q32: With newly provisioned instances are legacy reports automatically migrated or do we have to migrate first?
A32: They are not automatically migrated, but they should get migrated if you open them from the sys_report table in case you need them. There are already existing OOTB dashboards and data visualizations in the new Platform Analytics libraries
Q33: Am I understanding correctly that set-up indicators can be used in PAR with visualizations, but that setting up indicators, targets, breakdowns, etc... cannot be done in Platform Analytics, they still have to be set up or modified in the backend with Performance Analytics. Am I understanding correctly?
A33: It can be done in Platform Analytics, the existing menus for Indicators, Breakdowns, Jobs stay the same and have not changed any behavior.
Q34: I began testing the migration in a lower environment, but it shows a difference in the number of dashboards at the start vs what fully migrated and went into compatibility mode. Why would this be?
A34: Do you have any dashboard in Active=false? We do not migrate by default the dashboards that are inactive.
Q35: ML Cluster deletion has killed our system.
A35: We can only speak to RaptorDB as it relates to reports and analytics. There could be other considerations beyond reporting, and cluster deletions would fall into that category. Has there been a support case opened on that?
Q36: I've noticed that inactive dashboards are not migrated, but inactive reports are. Is that intentional? We want to be able to deactivate old reports to not have them migrated but were hoping to not have to delete them outright to have them not migrated...
