Good day everyone,
I'm very new here and am posting my first question to ask the forum and seek advice.
My company adopts the much preferred Agile working environment where employees have a choice to work from home a few days in the week. In the office setup, tables are no longer assigned to an employee but we are using the concept of hot-desking.
In HAM Pro, we assign hardware asset by users (that include bundles). Is there a possibility to assign asset based on a table reference so that it is easy for users to report hardware related issues by referencing to the table setup. Each table should have proper record of the displays and docking station in ServiceNow.
Is it possible to achieve this now?
Thank you folks for advising.

Hello Jerry,
One possible way to satisfy your requirement is to leave the "Assigned to" field on the asset records blank, update the "Asset function" to "Shared", and then set the Location field of the asset to the granular table location. Depending on how your location records have been set up in ServiceNow, you may already have these table records created, however if you do not, they would need to be created.
The recommendation here would be to have the "Location type" field on the Location records populated, perhaps with the OOB "Zone" option, otherwise you could customize this list and add a new identifier, such as "table". Additionally, you would want to ensure you keep the location hierarchy in place, so be sure to map the table location to a Parent location (such as office building).
Please note, that because the assets will no longer be assigned to individual users, any users that want to create an incident will not be able to utilize the "Report an Issue" (submit incident) feature in the "My Assets" section of the Now Mobile app because it will no longer be their asset.
I hope that helps! 🙂
All the best,
Stephanie

Hi Stephanie,
Thank you very much for the advice! It shows me the way to proceed to setup assets based on location.
Could I clarify more on where can I find the "Location type" field on the location records?
Thanks for letting me know.

You're welcome!
Location type is an available field on the Location record which is hidden out of the box. In order to add it to your form layout, (as an admin) you will need to:
- Click on the additional actions (hamburger) menu in the top left corner
- Select Configure > Form Layout
- Select Location type from the "Available" list and move it to the "Selected" list, either by double clicking on "Location type" or clicking on the add (>) button once you selected Location type.
- Once in the Selected section, click the up or down arrows to move the new field to the position you want it on your form
- Click Save
Once the field has been added to the form, you can select from the list of OOB options, or you can customize this list as previously mentioned.
Best of luck! 🙂

Hi Stephanie,
Is there a way to search for this in ServiceNow resources?
Thank you!
