I have numerous discovery models that were created against in-house built applications. I've created custom products to account for these discovery models as well. However I am unable to map the discovery models to the to the custom product. I also cannot seem to create a software entitlement for the custom product. It appears that the software model field on the discovery and entitlement forms only points to the software model table and not the custom table. Is there a way to map and create against custom products in order to accurately reconcile the product?

Andrew, I'm also curious about an answer to your question, but perhaps it would be helpful to exclude in-house apps from reconciliation, as they likely have no licensing implication?

The client has a requirement to manage compliance for in house applications, so we need a way to identify installs against rights. I was able to take a long way around solve the problem.
- Created custom product
- Created custom part number using Prod ID from Discovery Model
- for Entitlement definition I created a new discovery map using custom product in step 1.
- Create new software entitlement using part number created in step 2
- Manually normalize discovery model with custom publisher and product created in step 1.
- software model able to be populated with custom product.

Andrew,
Did you create pattern normalisation rules for the custom product?
Mike.

Hello Andrew,
You need to do a couple of things in the right order to get to your desired end state.
1. Create your custom product
2. Manually normalize your Discovery Model using the Custom Product This can be done by Pattern Normalization Rule, or by typing directly into the Discovery Model form.
3. Create your software model using the Custom Product and populate the Discovery Mapping attributes to return the correct Discovery models.
4. Create the software entitlement record and tie it to the Software Model from step 3.
This will solve your issue. Best of luck!
