What filters are in placed for "Unlicensed installs" shown under License usage for a product

Hello,

I am trying to understand what filters are in place behind the scenes for the "Unlicensed installs" metric on the License usage section of the Software Asset Workspace for a particular product. In our case, there is product I am going to call "product A" that has 52 software installs associated with it, via software discovery model. When I look at reconciliation results for this product in the License usage section (what used to be called the License workbench), I see that the status for the product is Not compliant, which makes perfect sense since we have no software entitlements set up for this product and 52 installs > 0 purchased rights on active entitlements. However, in the Unlicensed installs section of the Progress indicators box, I am seeing only the number 7. I would have expected to see the number 52. And that is for all Versions/Editions, everything for product A. None of the installed on CIs are retired. What else would cause only 7 installs to show up as Unlicensed installs when I see that we have 52 installs in our environment? I have not been able to find any documentation that explains the filters being used.

Hi Claire,

In this example, Visio Online is not licensed on a Per User basis. The correct metric is User Subscription. Because Visio Online is 'hybrid' SaaS, unlicensed installations are derived when an installation is discovered on a computer and there is no match between the detected user and and the license allocation in the M365 admin portal.

The definition on View software model results (servicenow.com) is "View software model results (servicenow.com)", so since there are no entitlements, I would expect all the software installations to show.

HI Claire - I would need the context to comment further, e.g. software model and license metric.

Thanks, Mike. The specific example is Microsoft Visio Online with a license metric of Per User. Beyond the reconciliation going to user or device, are there any other factors at play? I wish there was a bit more documentation on the calculation going into the License Workbench statistics -- I get very detailed questions from our SAM managers and am trying to figure out how to answer them.
