How to successfully insert a video into Knowledge article?

I have embedded a .mov file into the Knowledge text area.       I am trying this in both Fuji and in our development Geneva environment.       The video uploads but then it disappears after Saving the KB.         Where does it go?         Do I need to wait on it to upload more into the KB?         I have read the Wiki documentation and already found that I could not load the original .mp4 that I wanted because it was unsupported.     So I converted the file to .mov.       All I can do currently is add the .mov as an attachment.       Does anyone have any suggestions for this process?

Also, assuming I can get this to work, what is an advisable pixel size?

In your filter navigator, type Embed,     should bring up Embed Object Type

Click New.

what page are you trying to go to?

what exactly is the Code Base page?

Dear Steve,

Many thanks for this solution. It there any possibility to run the video in VLC player. Company default media player is vlc and it got installed in every machine.

Any suggestions?

Many thanks,

umm....   no.   the video actually plays from within ServiceNow.

But that standard .mov   you have to have Apple Quicktime installed on the machine.

Even though ServiceNow solution doesn't run the video in Quicktime, you have to have that installed for it to work.

we went with .mp4 because Windows Media Player is on every windows machine.   so it's more global than .mov.

since I started with ServiceNow, i have never know a way to "Open" an external program.   so i dont think there is a   way to launch VLC.

as long as windows media player is on the computers the .mp4 should work for you.

Hi Steven,

I got this almost working, thanks to this awesome post.

Have just one issue. Whenever adding the video into the Knowledge Article, so using, insert video, attachment , selecting the size, The Vid is embeded, but whenever I press save , the whole video just disappears from the article. Did you encounter something like that before?

I suspect this might be a issue with Tinymce (running on Geneva)

Hey Matt,

This was created when i was on Fuji and it worked fine.

We seem to have issues every now and then with Geneva.

I haven't quite figured out what the issue is.

I know if using IE, you have to do something else.   One of my KB admins figured out the fix.   i'll have to ask him again, cuz i cant remember.

I've also noticed that apparently all .mp4's are not created equally.   since Geneva it's more picky about the .mp4's it plays.   and none of us can figure that out.
