What effect does the "knowledge_group_member" role have?

The product documentation below contains an explanation of "knowledge_group_member," but I believe this is a description of members of the owning group.

I feel that the owning group does not need the "knowledge_group_member" role, so why is it granted?

Is "knowledge_group_member" a role that is granted to users who are not granted admin or user_admin roles so that they can edit members of the owning group?

Hello,

check these articles on official ServiceNow documentation:

knowledge_group_member role contains only knowledge role.

If you look for knowledge_group_member role in Access Roles table [sys_security_acl_role], you will see list of ACLs where it is used so get an idea what the role is allowed to do.

Members of an ownership group associated to knowledge article can maintain article quality, manage approvals, and for timely resolution of feedback.

From what I understand: If you create an ownership group and don't associate the role to the group, then members will not have access to maintain an article (if not inherited from another ownership group they are members of and group has role associated).

If my answer helped you, please mark it as correct and helpful, thank you 👍

Thanks for your reply.

I'm using "user criteria" to access the article.

I looked for the knowledge_group_member role in [sys_security_acl_role] but nothing came up.
