Manually updating CMDB data methods

How do you guys allow your analysts to update manual attributes on your CMDB data (Computers, Printers, etc)? Do you allow full direct table access, force updates via catalog items, use business queries and ACLs to certain fields, etc...?

Hi @gwolfkill ,

you can use the ACL to control the access to Analysts for CMDB, So they can update the Manual attribute as required as Discovered field should be read only.

Also you can design a process and Catalog using which they can fill the required manual attribute on catalog and after that automatically job update the existing record in CMDB for Manual Field but I use the reference field as much as possible for Assignment group, User etc so garbage value not entered.

We are currently using Catalog Items, but that creates a situation where users can't update to correct data on Data Certs or use as Proposed Changes in Change. I was assuming the best work around is to give direct ACL access to certain fields, but wanted to hear if that's truly how others were handling it.

Yes in this case you can use the ACL as it will give the direct access to update the CMDB Manual attribute and they can not fill the garbage value on that.

As i suggested , I used the both scenario for different customer

Hi @gwolfkill 

You can give access via ACL but other ways

- Via Transform map

- Catalog Items

but try to add the approval on catalog item if you use.
