Duplicate Hardware Models?

I am reading through the documentation and having a difficult time understanding the exact process for de-duplicating Hardware Models (Unless I don't understand this correctly). I was under the impression that Hardware Normalization collects multiple Hardware Models that are similar. Such as if we have the following models:

NameManufacturer
2892Cisco Systems
C2892Cisco
CISCO2892Cisco

I get a normalized model like:

2892Cisco Systems, Inc.

But I still see all of the other models. It just had the normalized model fields after it. Are you meant to manually delete the ones you don't want (and if so what happens when the related assets CI are re-discovered, will they be added to the new model, or will it re-create the original one?)

I am unsure of the effect that discovery has on Product Models, but I know it plays a part. I would like to take these similar Hardware Models and combine them into a single record that Discovery attaches new CIs to later on. (I could also be looking in the wrong spot, I am just looking on the cmdb_hardware_product_model table)

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!
