SAM Pro - Software entitlements and Publisher Part Numbers

Hi,

In case we have a set of standard software applications (known software) but the publisher part numbers for them are not present in the products definition table in the DEV instance, then the best way to create the entitlements and associate it with the right software model, would be to create a custom publisher part number and map it with the software model & the existing discovery map right (If the model is available)?

Also, in case the PPN is present in the products definition table but is associated with perpetual license type only and the same number is also used for subscriptions, what should we do in such cases to create an entitlement with "subscription" license type using the same number.

Please suggest/confirm the best approach.

Kevin,

HI KB article KB0790305 addresses how to submit content to ServiceNow for addition to the content library.  Please use this method if you have sufficient lead time for content creation; usually from two to four weeks.  If you do not have time, then you are correct creation of a custom product is the correct approach.

Hi Daniel,

I have found that the PPN / SKU for the products we own do not match with what is in SAMPro's Product Part Number table. There are also instance where the products we own do not exist when compared to the SAMPro table. Can you please advice why this is the case ?

Hi Scott,

As much as we'd like to have every PPN from every publisher on the planet in our content, that is an imposibility.  An important distinction is that we do not have SKU's from Vendors in our library. We do however, have Publisher Part Numbers. If you are attempting to enter SKU's, you will not find a match.

If you have a specific list of PPN's which are not being matched when you import or enter data manually into a Software Entitlement record, I'd encourage you to submit those to our Content team for creation. KB0790305 in our HI customer support system outlines the process.

I noted from your profile that you work for BP.  Our primary content creation focus has been on major publishers such as Microsoft, Oracle, Adobe, IBM, VMWare, and others who publish software used across every sector.  We have found by working with other Energy sector companies that some of the more engineering focused products are not in our library.  We've been focused on enriching that data with their assistance and would welcome your product submissions as well so we can meet your needs and better serve our broader customer base.

Regards, Daniel
