Runtime, or buyside, APIs are used to create, update, and save configurations.
CPQ APIs are divided into two categories: runtime APIs and admin APIs. In this article, we introduce the runtime APIs.
Runtime APIs are used to create, read, update, and delete configurations, and are the same APIs that are used in the CPQ End User Configurator. They are also commonly referred to as the “buyside“ APIs.
All API calls follow this base URL format: https://<yourTenant>.<sector>.cpq/api/. In this URL, yourTenant represents your unique listed CPQ tenant name, and sector is the sector where your CPQ environment is located.
If you are a Salesforce user, you can find your tenant URL by clicking Setup in your Salesforce account. In the Quick Find box, search for or click Custom Settings, and then click Manage. Your tenant URL will be displayed.
All runtime API calls require bearer token authentication using a unique token that is available in the runtime client. They also require that the origin URL configured in the runtime client appears in the request header.
To authenticate, collect the bearer token and the origin URL from CPQ Admin → Utilities → Runtime Client. For each API call in a Postman, add the following header:

In the Authorization tab of Postman or your API tool, select Bearer Token, and then input the unique token you copied from CPQ Admin.
Basic runtime API calls
- The initial configure call starts the configuration process by passing the ID of the configurable product, and returns a configuration UUID for later use.

This process asynchronously populates our custom objects, configuration field data sets, and configuration line items in Salesforce.
