My library Knowledge Sources To Go is very popular, but it was intended mainly as a thematically grouped guide to standard sources and was provided by me as a PDF file. For certain topics, however, there is so much content that I can no longer include it in that document, as it cannot continue to grow forever.
For this reason, I have decided to handle such topics in individual community articles like this one instead.
What are releases in ServiceNow?
Versions of ServiceNow stretch back over two decades, when the company (which had recently changed its name from Glidesoft) rolled out a version labeled ‘Summer 2007’. What followed was a periodic release schedule, which saw the release of up to three different versions of ServiceNow each year. At this point, between 2007 and 2011, ServiceNow releases had not yet adopted a city-based naming scheme and were instead named after the seasons (later months) in which they were released. After October 2011, the naming convention of ServiceNow versions changed to follow a different pattern. The new approach sees each edition receive its designation based on a city and following alphabetical order. The first world city to be honored was Aspen in 2012 with Berlin following.
Yokohama's release at a glance
ServiceNow's Yokohama release, rolled out in early 2025, is a major update focusing on artificial intelligence, data management, and user experience improvements. This release aims to help organizations streamline operations and enhance digital workflows, making it a transformative step for service management platforms.
Here is a selected (but not complete) list of the most exciting features that stand out in this powerful platform update:
-
AI Agent Studio: This revolutionary feature enables the creation of autonomous AI agents that perceive their environment, make decisions, and execute tasks with minimal human intervention. With a low-code interface, developers can build custom AI agents that integrate seamlessly with enterprise workflows.
-
Agentic AI: ServiceNow's agentic AI allows AI agents to independently generate plans and execute actions based on existing workflows. This next level of automation enables businesses to operate 24/7 with AI-driven agents handling complex tasks autonomously.
-
ServiceNow Studio: A unified, AI-powered environment that revolutionizes development for no-code, low-code, and pro-code developers. It accelerates application development with intuitive tools that enhance collaboration and streamline automation, all in one workspace.
-
Enhanced Query Builder: Upgrades with a modern workspace and drag-and-drop, making complex queries intuitive for administrators.
-
Flow Debugger: Developers can now debug flows and subflows using a dedicated Workflow Studio tab, setting breakpoints, pausing flows at specific steps, and reviewing configuration and runtime values to troubleshoot effectively.
-
Service Observability: This feature unifies monitoring tools into a single source of truth, using AI-driven insights to pinpoint root causes faster, quantify business impact, and resolve issues before they escalate.
-
Workflow Data Fabric: The enhanced data foundation connects and activates data from any source, harmonizing it with the ServiceNow Platform. This breaks down silos between data sources, enabling more connected and intelligent AI operations.
-
Developer Sandbox: This isolated development environment allows teams to work in parallel without disrupting other users. Sandboxes can be instantiated on-demand, containing full metadata and transactional data from the base instance.
-
RaptorDB: RaptorDB, ServiceNow's new high-performance database, significantly enhances transactional speed and data processing capabilities, ideal for powering AI-driven applications and analytics.
-
Data Management Console: This centralized dashboard enables administrators to monitor storage consumption and manage data growth effectively. It provides real-time insights into stored data and simplifies the implementation of data retention policies.
