Introduction to Dashboards in ServiceNow
A dashboard is essentially a collection of widgets and reports. These visual tools provide a quick snapshot of various metrics and KPIs, all from a centralized location. Dashboards can be configured for different user roles, ensuring that the data shown is relevant to each individual.
Accessing Dashboards
To create or view dashboards:
- In the Application Navigator, type "Dashboards" and click on Performance Analytics Dashboards or Create New.
- Dashboards are often linked to specific modules or business areas (e.g., Incident Management, Change Management).
Dashboard Widgets
Widgets are the building blocks of dashboards. Some common widget types include:
- Report Widgets: Displays a specific report within a dashboard.
- Performance Analytics Widgets: Shows KPIs and scorecards based on Performance Analytics metrics.
- Chart Widgets: Display data in visual formats like bar charts, pie charts, or line graphs.
- Metric Widgets: Display specific metrics like SLA compliance or response times.
Creating a Dashboard
Follow these steps to create a new dashboard:
- Go to Dashboards: Access the Dashboard section from the navigator.
- Create New Dashboard: Click Create New, and provide a name and description for the dashboard.
- Add Widgets: Select the widget type you need and choose reports or performance analytics data to display.
- Configure Layout: Arrange widgets on the dashboard for optimal visualisation. You can resize, move, and customise the layout.
- Set Permissions: Define which user roles can view or edit the dashboard, ensuring the right people have access to the data.

Hi @Dinesh_Now,
thank you for sharing this post, could you possibly share based on what did you create it?
It seems that you confused two things here. You said "In the Application Navigator, type "Dashboards" and click on Performance Analytics Dashboards or Create New." but if you follow, there's no such a thing Performance Analytics Dashboards:
Instead there's Platform (not performance) Analytics
And neither the Create New is available in the app filter. New dashboard is created from the Dashboard page and it says Create dashboard, not Create new...
https://yourinstance.service-now.com/now/platform-analytics-workspace/dashboard-library
Could you please share a screenshot from your instance to understand your approach? This is my PDI, perhaps it requires some plugin(s) to be installed but it was not mentioned. This doesn't seem to be validated by yourself before posting, could you please review it?
Thank you very much.

Hello @GlideFather .
Yes you are correct, Its platform only but some how its casue of TYPO> and for create Dashboard. yes shwoing in portal create dashbaord only.
But for understanding i used create new dashbaord.
Will keep note what you advised, will use same word/option, will not use our own.
Thank you for correcting....
Based on my experience working with ServiceNow dashboards, the process usually starts with creating a report.
First, navigate to All → Reports → Create New Report.
Select the table from which you want to retrieve the data (for example: Incident, Alert, Task, etc.).
Choose the report visualization type depending on how you want to present the data, such as Pie Chart, Bar Chart, List, or other available formats.
Configure additional settings like report title, colors, alignment, and layout to make the report easier to read and more visually appealing.
Use the filter options on the left side to refine the data according to your requirements.
Once the report configuration is complete:
You can use the Share option to allow specific users, groups, or roles to access the report.
Then save the report.
Adding the Report to a Dashboard
After saving the report:
If a dashboard already exists, open the dashboard and either create a new tab or add the report widget to an existing tab.
If there is no dashboard available, click Create Dashboard and configure a new one.
Once the dashboard is created, you can add the reports you created to display the data visually.
Auto Refresh for Live Data
For operational or support dashboards (such as Incident or Alert monitoring dashboards), you can configure the auto-refresh option. This allows the dashboard to refresh automatically every 2, 5, 10, or 15 minutes, ensuring that the data displayed is current and close to real-time.

Australia is already in RTP, so it would have been better if this was based on the Platform Analytics Experience and not on the legacy dashboards/reports. Starting Australia, PAE is the way to go, even though the old stuff will still be available through PAE.
Please mark any helpful or correct solutions as such. That helps others find their solutions.
