Accessing and Navigating Applications
- Opening an app for the first time: Use the Navigator panel to search or select apps, which opens the app’s full contents organized by file categories such as Automation.
- Continued work: Recently opened apps and files appear on the Studio home page and in the Recent section of the Navigator panel, facilitating quick access based on your usage history.
App Details Page Features
- File organization and management: View files grouped by categories like Data, User Interface, Automation, and Security. Use filtering, sorting, and bookmarking to focus on relevant files.
- Metadata and app summary: The page header displays app metadata and enables generation of app summaries using Now Assist. You can also create new files directly within the app.
- Badges: Visual indicators (e.g., Creator Studio, AI, Fluent) clarify app origination and deployment considerations.
- App actions: Use the top-right menu to link apps to source control, invite collaborators, adjust settings, publish, refresh, or delete the app. Source control options appear if linked.
- File records: Each file shows metadata and provides options to open, add new files, or bookmark for easy reference.
- Scope and update sets: The bottom section shows the app’s scope and associated update set. Scope switches automatically with tab changes, and you can create or associate update sets for publishing changes.

Opening an existing application for the first time
The first time you open ServiceNow Studio, open your apps from the Navigator panel on the left side of the screen. You can search for the app or select it from the list.
When you select an app, it opens the entire contents of the app in the Navigator panel, with all file types organized by category, such as Automation. Open the app in a new integrated tab by selecting App details.

Opening apps for continued work
After the first time you've opened an app, it displays on the ServiceNow Studio home page in the Recently opened apps section. Recently opened files are also accessible from the home page.
You can also access the Recent section of the Navigator panel to find apps and files you've worked on based on certain time periods.
App details features
- From the Navigator panel, see a high-level view of the files organized by category. You can bookmark files or apps, open the full list of any file type, or filter the list to see just what you're looking for. For more information, see Bookmark apps and app files in ServiceNow Studio.
- The Files section shows featured file types (Data, User Interface, Automation, and Security) or all file types. You can also filter or sort the list to see the files you want to work with. For more information, see Working with metadata app file categories in the ServiceNow Studio Navigator.
- The page header shows metadata about your app and enables you to summarize an app using Now Assist for app summary generation and create files directly in the app using the + Create option. You might see a badge next to the app title such as Creator Studio, AI, or Fluent. These badges help you understand where an app was created and how it might need to be deployed. - In the top right corner, you have access to several actions you can perform in your app. Select the more options icon
to link the app to source control, invite collaborators, access settings, or publish, refresh, or delete the app. If an app is linked to source control, the available source control operations display in a menu next to
the Summary button. For more information, see Applications in ServiceNow Studio. - Each file record shows metadata about the file. You can select the file to open it, select Add to add new files of that type, or easily bookmark files. For more information, see Create an app file in ServiceNow Studio.
- At the bottom of each App details page, you can see the scope and update set associated with the current app. Remember, scope switches automatically as you switch between integrated tabs in ServiceNow Studio. You can also create a new update set and associate app changes to it for publishing.
