At some point in your journey as a ServiceNow Engineer, someone is going to challenge you on what the CMDB is in ServiceNow. The purpose and how it is structured.
I want you to be prepared to face this ethical dilemma head-on. The reality is, there is no dilemma. However, not everyone sees it that way.
A client asked me who has purchased ITSM Pro and ITOM Visibility, during their implementation.... the question is what is the CMDB giving and why it needs to be populated. Failing to explain the main purpose will result in a disastrous outcome.
Lets dive in!
Building block 1: CMDB is the heart of ServiceNow, a healthy and well maintained CMDB gives the Service Desk accurate and fast triaging of tickets.
Building block 2: ServiceNow CMDB provides maturity and structure to the IT landscape. Giving service owners and directors a good grasp of the business services and its criticality. Providing a visibility of a digital portfolio and its performance.
Building block 3: ServiceNow Service Mapping, enables service desk and different IT groups the dependecies further allowing a full picture of critical bottlenecks that are occuring.
These are the three of the most critical foundations of the CMDB. Let me show you and witness why on this live demo: ServiceNow Foundations: 3 CMDB Building Blocks (Configuration Management Database in ServiceNow)
