How to use uploaded image/icons for knowledge article's image

We are trying to use custom uploaded images for our knowledge articles, these are the image/icons at the beginning of the knowledge article record on the View page.
(see attached image)
You can select any of the images that SN provides you, but any of the custom images we have uploaded, never show up in this list. We have tried all 3 options, /images/, icons and UPLOADS, none of them show our custom images, I have tried different sizes for the images, different types, nothing seems to work.
Has anybody gotten this to work? If so, details please.
BTW, yes, I have tried various "Category" types for the images we uploaded, none of them seem to work.
Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Thanks for the tip, but we would like to keep our List Control locked down for these records, so we were hoping to have a method that our "normal" users would be able to use.
For me, the look up method works great, I just can't believe we can't use the UPLOAD section, seems that is what designed for, but just not working properly.
Any other suggestions on how to use customer uploaded images within the normal edit method of an article?

Hi Steve,
We recently upgraded to Helsinki from Eureka. While we were able to upload images from the LIST view but in Helsinki that is locked down. Were you able to find a way for attaching custom images for Knowledge Article.
