  • The ServiceNow® App Engine Studio (AES) application enables creators of varying skill levels to build applications that meet the immediate needs of your organization. App Engine Studio was enhanced and updated in the Xanadu release.

    App Engine Studio highlights for the Xanadu release

    • Give users permission to work in AES or Creator Studio by assigning roles during the intake request review process in AEMC.
    • Govern which AES and Creator Studio groups show as active by managing records on the User Group Permission Types [sn_app_intake_permission_type] table.
    • Test AEMC on a non-production instance to ensure everything works as expected before moving to production.
    • As of Xanadu Store Release 2, open an application in ServiceNow Studio directly from App Engine Studio.

    Important information for upgrading App Engine Studio to Xanadu

    Due to a new process for assigning groups in App Engine Management Center (AEMC), ensure you have the same version of the Application Intake plugin installed on each of your instances.

    New in the Xanadu release

    Add users to one or more user groups
    When viewing an intake request in AEMC, add a user to one or more AES and Creator Studio user groups.
    Manage user groups for Application Intake
    Manage which AES and Creator Studio user groups are active in your instance by updating records on the User Groups Permission Types [sn_app_intake_permission_type] table.
    Test AEMC on a non-production instance
    Test AEMC on a non-production instance to ensure everything works as expected before moving to your production instance.
    Open applications in ServiceNow Studio
    As of Xanadu Store Release 2, open an application in ServiceNow Studio directly from a banner link in App Engine Studio to explore the more advanced application development environment ServiceNow Studio offers.

    UI changes

    Enhanced visibility of apps created by Now Assist
    The App Engine Studio App Inventory page now clearly distinguishes apps created with Now Assist in the following ways:
    • A transition animation from the Now Assist Panel into AES eases navigation after the application has been generated.
    • A banner prompts users to review the generated items on landing in AES.
    • Metadata records are tagged with labels and other UI highlights to indicate they were generated by AI.
    • Metadata records have a Review button to identify records that need to be reviewed.
    • App submission changes help inform users that they should be reviewing prior to deployment.

    Activation information

    Install App Engine Studio by requesting it from the ServiceNow Store. Visit the ServiceNow Store website to view all the available apps and for information about submitting requests to the store.
