Summary of Exploring Flow summarization
Flow summarization leverages generative AI to create concise descriptions of what flows or subflows do within ServiceNow. This capability helps users quickly understand the purpose and function of flows, enhancing collaboration and reducing the manual effort required to document flow details.

Activation and Setup
The flow summarization skill is included with the ServiceNow Otto for Creator (snnowcreator) application, which can be installed from the ServiceNow Store. Users can configure the AI model providers through the AI Control Tower and set preferences in the AI Admin Hub console. Supported large language models (LLMs) include Now LLM Service, Azure OpenAI, Google Gemini, and Anthropic Claude on AWS.
Using Flow and Subflow Summaries
- Summaries are accessible via the More Actions menu for both flows and subflows.
- If a flow or subflow has not been summarized before, a Summarize button is displayed to generate a new summary.
- Previously generated summaries can be viewed, and each summary displays its creation date.
- Users can regenerate summaries as needed from the respective summary dialog boxes.
AI Considerations
This feature uses AI and machine learning, which may not always produce fully accurate or complete information. It is important for users to test and evaluate AI-generated summaries for correctness and suitability to their specific use cases. Human oversight is recommended, especially when deploying in sensitive or critical domains such as healthcare, finance, or security. Users must also comply with ServiceNow’s AI Acceptable Use Policy.

AI limitations
This application uses artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning, which are rapidly evolving fields of study that generate predictions based on patterns in data. As a result, this application may not always produce accurate, complete, or appropriate information. Furthermore, there is no guarantee that this application has been fully trained or tested for your use case. To mitigate these issues, it is your responsibility to test and evaluate your use of this application for accuracy, harm, and appropriateness for your use case, employ human oversight of output, and refrain from relying solely on AI-generated outputs for decision-making purposes. This is especially important if you choose to deploy this application in areas with consequential impacts such as healthcare, finance, legal, employment, security, or infrastructure. You agree to abide by ServiceNow’s AI Acceptable Use Policy, which may be updated by ServiceNow.
