Hi - if by "scan" you mean SN Discovery.... all that Discovery needs is an IP address and credentials that work and the MID server ability to communicate via IP to the laptop/device to be discovered. So if your wifi/VPN solutions will allow the MID to communicate to the laptop (no firewalls, security rules, etc.. to get in the way...) and the laptop & instance of appropriate credentials, Disco can do its thing...
Disco doesn't care, or know, that the target device being 'scanned' is being accessed over WiFi or VPN or whatever.
Hope this helps?

I guess when the users undocked their laptops, their IP address and it was probably not part of our subnet which caused the scans to not work.

I also encountered a similar problem, but in my case, the problem was in a terrible VPN service. In general, my previous provider was just horrible, the most frequent problems were with loading and banning accounts. The provider didn't try to help me in any way, so I had to choose a new VPN service. For a couple of months, I have been using one VPN which allows me to watch extended Netflix content. There is a whole list of reliable and proven VPN services for easy watching, which everyone can choose depending on their personal wishes. I am pleasantly surprised that they are free and their apps are very easy to install.
