macro does not work on portal.
write your macro script in service portal widget and then you can call the widget on your macro type variable.

just confirming here, are you sure it's "Annotation" type variable ? i did not find any variable type as "Annotation"
i think there is annotation tab on variable , if those values are not visible on service portal form , then did you try to checked the "Show Help" checkbox ? kindly checked that and then it will be visible.
Adding screenshot for further reference.

Hello SN Emy,
Do you mean that it doesn't show within the image that was shown? If that's the case, that seems to be iframed into the service portal and not actually part of the Service Portal Service Catalog.
If you are in fact utilizing the Service Portal view of the Service Catalog, is the variable of type macro to display the text in custom color etc. as shown above? If so, you'd need to create a Service Portal Widget and then select the widget within the variable under the "Type Specifications" tab within the variable.
