What is a "Summary Macro" and can it be used to add help text to a macro field?

I've seen this field on the type specification for a Macro variable, but I can't find any documentation about what it does. Anyone have any information? Screenshot below

Hi Andrew,

"Summary Macro" is used to show information about the Macro on the "variable summary". When 2 step checkout is enabled, and you order an item, then on the 2 step checkout page, with the label of the variable, the "Summary Macro" is shown.
