Generate the Smartsheet Application Programming Interface (API) key

Generate the Smartsheet API key to be a part of every API call in an HTTP authorization header. Authenticating the API key is a part of the integration process between the ServiceNow® instance and Smartsheet.

Before you begin

• Create an account with Smartsheet that is allowed to generate API keys.
• Role required: admin

Procedure

1. Log in to https://app.smartsheet.com/.
2. In the left pane, select the Smartsheet account icon .
3. Select Personal Settings.
4. Select the API Access tab.
5. Select Generate new access token.
6. In the API Access Token Name box, enter the name of the API token.
7. Select OK.
   An API key is generated, as shown in the following example.

8. Select OK.
   The generated API key is available in the Manage API Access Tokens section as shown in the following example.
