Azure Service Endpoint Policy pattern-based discovery
Summarize
Summary of Azure Service Endpoint Policy pattern-based discovery
The Azure Service Endpoint Policy pattern-based discovery enables ServiceNow customers to identify and map Azure service endpoint policies within their cloud environments. This functionality is part of the Discovery and Service Mapping Patterns application, which finds Azure resources and populates related data into both CMDB and non-CMDB tables. This discovery helps maintain an accurate and comprehensive asset inventory for Azure resources, supporting better cloud management and governance.

Key Features
- Pattern Activation: The Azure Service Endpoint Policy pattern is disabled by default and can be enabled from Visibility Content version 6.28.0 onwards without being treated as a customization, allowing seamless updates.
- Discovery Requirements: Customers must verify Microsoft Azure discovery prerequisites and configure the discovery schedule appropriately, including using specific datacenter URLs for Azure GovCloud (US) accounts.
- Data Storage: The discovery populates Azure-specific data into non-CMDB tables (for example, Azure service endpoint policy service endpoint policy and its definitions) and CMDB tables (such as the Cloud Resource table), ensuring integrated and comprehensive tracking of Azure resources.
- Detailed Resource Attributes: Discovered resources include key fields such as Object ID, kind, location, resource group, subscription ID, tenant ID, provisioning state, and links to configuration items.
- CI Relationships: The pattern creates relationships between Azure Service Endpoint Policies, cloud resources, subnets, resource groups, and datacenters to accurately represent the infrastructure and dependencies.
- Azure Tag Discovery: Tags associated with Azure resources are collected and stored in the Key Value table, enabling enhanced filtering and categorization of resources within the CMDB.
Practical Benefits for ServiceNow Customers
- Enables automated and accurate discovery of Azure Service Endpoint Policies to ensure your CMDB reflects your current cloud environment.
- Supports compliance and governance by maintaining detailed information about Azure resource provisioning states and relationships.
- Improves cloud asset management through enriched data, including geographic location, subscription details, and tenant information.
- Facilitates integration with other ServiceNow CMDB data by establishing configuration item references and relationships.
- Allows for enhanced tagging and categorization, supporting operational and reporting needs within ServiceNow.
Next Steps
To leverage this discovery pattern, ensure that you:
- Meet the prerequisites for Microsoft Azure discovery.
- Activate the Azure Service Endpoint Policy pattern within the Discovery and Service Mapping Patterns application.
- Configure your Discovery schedules, particularly when working with Azure GovCloud environments.
- Review the discovered data within the specified CMDB and non-CMDB tables to validate completeness and accuracy.
Discovery and Service Mapping Patterns finds Azure services on your cloud environment. Discovering some of these resources may require updating to the latest version of the Discovery and Service Mapping Patterns application from the ServiceNow Store.
Pattern-based discovery and mapping requirements
- Verify the Microsoft Azure discovery prerequisites
- For more information, see the prerequisites section in Microsoft Azure Cloud components discovery using patterns.
- Enable the relevant pattern
- The pattern for this service is disabled by default. Starting with Visibility Content version 6.28.0, activating or deactivating a pattern won't be considered a customization, and it will continue to receive updates. Patterns that were previously activated or deactivated will reset to the latest predefined version after upgrading while retaining the last active field value. For more information on enabling patterns, see Activate a disabled pattern.
- Configure the Discovery schedule to support GovCloud
- Discovering Azure GovCloud (US) accounts requires using a datacenter URL when setting up an Azure service account. For more information, see Set up Azure service accounts.
Discovery and Service Mapping Patterns application populates data in both CMDB and non-CMDB tables.
Data stored in non-CMDB tables
Discovery and Service Mapping Patterns application populates data in the non-CMDB tables when running the Azure - Service Endpoint Policy - Extended Inventory(LP) pattern.
You can review the non-CMDB Azure tables by navigating to . You can also search the navigation filter for the specific pattern name.
