Amazon Timestream for InfluxDB Database Instance pattern-based discovery
Summarize
Summary of Amazon Timestream for InfluxDB Database Instance pattern-based discovery
The Amazon Timestream for InfluxDB Database Instance pattern-based discovery enables ServiceNow customers to discover and map AWS InfluxDB database instances within their cloud environment. This functionality is part of the Discovery and Service Mapping Patterns application, which identifies AWS services and populates related configuration data into both CMDB and non-CMDB tables. It supports detailed inventory and relationship tracking of InfluxDB instances to provide comprehensive visibility in ServiceNow.

Key Features
- Pattern Activation: The InfluxDB discovery pattern is disabled by default and must be enabled manually. From version 6.28.0 of Visibility Content, enabling/disabling patterns does not count as customization, allowing seamless updates.
- Prerequisites and Setup: Ensure AWS discovery prerequisites are met, remove any duplicate resources from the Resource Inclusion List to avoid redundant discovery, and configure the discovery schedule properly for AWS GovCloud environments.
- Data Population: The pattern populates detailed information into the CMDB table
cmdbawstimestreamforinfluxdbdatabaseinstanceand the generic Cloud DataBase tablecmdbciclouddatabase. It also stores tags in thecmdbkeyvaluetable. - CI Relationships: Relationships are created to link InfluxDB instances to AWS Datacenters and Cloud DataBase CIs, supporting comprehensive service mapping and impact analysis.
Data Elements Collected
- In CMDB AWS Table (
cmdbawstimestreamforinfluxdbdatabaseinstance): Name, status, configuration item reference, DB instance type and storage type, and unique Amazon Resource Name (ARN). - In Cloud DataBase Table (
cmdbciclouddatabase): Name, install status (default "Installed"), operational status (default "Operational"), object ID (ARN), and type set toAWS::Timestream::InfluxDBInstance. - Tags: Collected tags are stored as key-value pairs in
cmdbkeyvaluefor enhanced metadata and filtering capabilities.
Practical Benefits for ServiceNow Customers
- Automates discovery and inventory of AWS Timestream for InfluxDB instances, reducing manual effort and increasing accuracy.
- Enables improved visibility into database instance configurations, status, and dependencies within the ServiceNow CMDB.
- Supports compliance and governance by integrating AWS GovCloud discovery capabilities.
- Facilitates better change, incident, and asset management through accurate CI relationships and tagging.
Discovery and Service Mapping Patterns finds AWS services on your cloud environment. Discovering some of these resources may require updating to the latest version of the Discovery and Service Mapping Patterns application from the ServiceNow Store.
Pattern-based discovery and mapping requirements
- Verify the AWS discovery prerequisites
- For more information, see the prerequisites section in Amazon AWS Cloud components discovery using patterns.
- Remove resources from the Resource Inclusion List table
- Verify that the relevant resource isn't listed in the Resource Inclusion List [sa_cloud_inventory_resource_whitelist] table to avoid duplicate discovery. For more information on removing resources from the Resource Inclusion List, see Amazon Web Services (AWS) Resource Inventory.
- Enable the relevant pattern
- The pattern for this service is disabled by default. Starting with Visibility Content version 6.28.0, activating or deactivating a pattern won't be considered a customization, and it will continue to receive updates. Patterns that were previously activated or deactivated will reset to the latest predefined version after upgrading while retaining the last active field value. For more information on enabling patterns, see Activate a disabled pattern.
- Configure the Discovery schedule to support GovCloud
- Discovering AWS GovCloud (US) accounts requires using a datacenter URL when setting up an AWS service account. For more information, see Create AWS service accounts.
Discovery and Service Mapping Patterns application populates data in both CMDB and non-CMDB tables.
Data stored in non-CMDB tables
Discovery and Service Mapping Patterns application populates data in the non-CMDB table when running the Amazon AWS - Timestream for InfluxDB Database Instance - Extended Inventory (LP) pattern.
You can review the non-CMDB AWS tables by navigating to . You can also search the navigation filter for the specific pattern name.
